Every day is Halloween for the likes of me. I’m working on a fair amount of dark and depressing stuff, so I can’t take any horror without a side of ‘bots tonight.

Two stories that were really scary when I was a...
So I read this in that Unexplained Encyclopedia that’s in the library, that there were these kids and they were in Spain or something I forget where but they were going home and they saw this thing in the bushes and it was a giant rectangle that was completely smooth and they threw a rock at it and it ran away. It split in half at the bottom to have two legs and it ran away.

Eyes first, sentence afterward
The first thing I learned when I was finally figuring out how to do halfway decent human faces is that you must draw the facial structure first, before you sketch the features. This is disappointing if, like me, you are given to doodling eyes, all by themselves.
Today, I experimented with drawing the eyes first and letting the drawing take shape afterward. Mixed results at best. All I got was...

Nothing much today from me
Just derping around. Lot on my mind.

"Jomon figures come to life"
The above was a misheard lyric, but it was from a Mr. Bungle song, so it made as much sense as otherwise, and I like it better.
A single drawing, even a much better one, could not convey the horror of Jomon figures come to life.
I'm pretty sure I've drawn this before
I just can’t remember it. It’s the alien that I was convinced lived in the side yard next to my bedroom window when I was little. You know, the one that was actually a shadow from a streetlight and electric pole? Everybody saw one of those, right?
Lately I’ve been trying to see what exactly I can make pencil strokes accomplish, with nothing else. I don’t like the...
Fillip, flail, and otherwise fail
A weird day. Nothing worth looking at, but extant nonetheless.
Mixed media
Post-it and paper.
The Post-it constituted the only thing I drew today worth looking at, so I built onto it. Got to draw something properly this weekend.
Quick sketch of a wonderful thing
Body Mask
Asmat peoples, Indonesia (Papua)
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The art and religion of the Asmat people of southwest New Guinea center primarily on the spirits of the recently dead. Nearly all Asmat subgroups celebrate, or celebrated, the mask feast, a series of rituals culminating when the dead, personified by performers wearing full-length body masks, return to visit the...
Just keeping my hand in again tonight
Sleeping on the lee side of a boulder, apparently.
So busy this weekend
Run down and miserable — but nonetheless, I refuse to quit, I have just done something to keep my hand in tonight, and wait upon the future —
Pointillizin'
Not much, I know, but I’m very busy this weekend, so what I have will probably be unimpressive at best. I think I’ll shake things up with some reblogging of recent awesome posts.
Oh what's this
Is it somebody else who is snarling and looking over her shoulder through narrowed eyes? COULD BE
Sorry, I know, I draw this all the time and more so when I am having one of my little turns, as I am tonight. I’ll be better soon.
Oh, just sitting around squinting and headachy and...
How ‘bout you?
It would seem I am back
Drawing poorly every day beats waiting until I feel I’ve got something worth showing, at least on principle. So I am just going to hang out right here for now, upside down.
Dit dit dahdit dit
My internet is out tonight for some reason, but I won’t tell you that you would be seeing something otherwise. I am in considerable muscle pain and in the middle of a nineteenth nervous breakdown, so I need to take a couple of days off.

None of us can help how we're made, as the British...
I was thinking about this photo all day; the resulting sketch is more of a caricature.
Scooter, here, did not mean to look beatific. No one ever knows how they’re being photographed, even when they are posing, as these two were not. Photography is odd and treacherous, and she happened to have a lovely, anachronistic, seventeenth-century sort of face, so now she is iconic.
And what of...
No excuses this time
Just laziness and busyness and one little sketch. You know what I have to stop doing? Drawing people looking suspiciously off to one side in fear or calculation. It has gotten to be a Thing with me, for some reason.
Again with the not today
Feeling ill in an exciting and different way. It involves Pepto-Bismol.

Ow ow ow ow
I went and pulled a muscle in my arm the other day and now I’m hurting. It’s one of those bizarre delayed reactions I get. On Friday I felt like my briefcase was too heavy, I was fine yesterday, and today I can’t take a deep breath because of something it did to my back.
Also I can’t find a whole lot of bearable positions to be in for long, so I may not be drawing today.

All shall cry, beware, beware
A mugshot of Deryl Dedmon, Jr., appeared on the front page of cnn.com today. I can’t find that article now, but this one should tell you who he is. As a Mississippian, I was horrified and genuinely surprised that this thing happened, and thoroughly pleased that there appears to be no ghastly coverup. Such a murder is more of a thing I’d expect from rural New England or the West. ...
